‘Double’ by Tea Eater | Video Premiere

Exclusive video premiere of ‘Double’ by Tea Eater.

Tea Eater delivered their latest music video single, ‘Double,’ with a blend of playfulness and ghoulish intrigue. This piece takes us on a captivating journey into a hauntingly scenic swampy landscape, where ominous crooked branches dangle in the sky.

The video begins with curious cinematography, showcasing a lone amp sitting amidst the muddy terrain of a dirt road. A young woman in vibrant teal boots enters the frame, adding a splash of color to the desolate backdrop. We watch with anticipation, as she begins to plug in her guitar. But just before the song begins, we see a flash of another figure, hidden deep in the woods.

‘Double’ then bursts forth with the energy of heavy surf rock and the charming allure of the Smiths. However, the vibe of the song is slightly tinged with a subtle undercurrent of anxiety and existentialism.

As the spellbinding plot progresses, two individuals in white hazmat suits venture into the woods. An enigmatic figure comes into focus. A doppelgänger of the first woman soon materializes, dressed entirely in black.

Tea Eater masterfully crafts a punky fuzz rock sound that resonates with a deliciously macabre twist. Lyricist Tara Thiessen exhibits her cleverness by seamlessly rhyming “double” with “shovel,” coyly exploring a theme of self-destruction. Furthermore, her vocals exude a timeless charm. Her use of bright ornamental vocal fry at the ends of phrases is tasteful and reminiscent of the 1960s.

The vintage Halloween-vibes offer a much darker edge to the surf-inspired tune. It’s a sound I’ve never encountered, and grew to love after a single listen. The ensemble’s tight-knit collaboration results in a captivating noir fusion. The rhythmic duo between Alex Tuisku and Vram Kherlopian, creates a backdrop that further amplifies Theissen’s creative genius.

Despite the haunting undertones, Tea Eater manages to infuse ‘Double’ with quirky comic relief. From random glimpses of a sunglasses-clad stuffed dog near a drum set, to a yellow hazmat-suited man fishing, and the lead lady playfully twirling a guitar cable around a man with funky glasses.

As a whole ‘Double’ is a delightful dark yet fun indie experience. So, go on and immerse yourself in this indie-rock tapestry!
