‘Tim Dillon’ by Trick Gum | New Album, ‘Rack Up Your Debt’
Today, Trick Gum shares ‘Tim Dillon’. First Cousins Justin Raisen (acclaimed producer) and Jordan Benik (designer, songwriter for L.A. Cult Faves Sweaters) have been writing songs together for over a decade.
Their new outfit Trick Gum’s upcoming slate of monthly singles promises to deliver exciting new music with regularity. Trick Gum throws space punk energy, heartfelt ambience, playful psych send-ups, and inventive production into the blender, presses “Smoothie,” and the result is something you can feel comfortable promoting on your platform.
Justin Raisen and Jordan Benik were born two days apart, Justin in Miami where his father worked for YSL, Jordan in Chicago where his father was attending Moody Bible College with a major in Ancient Greek. Thick as thieves in their youth, the cousins decided to be a The Band and recorded over 80 songs in BayShore, NY, while clocked in at their no-show jobs for the Town of Oyster Bay Parks Dept.
The NYC kids loved them, so they decided to move to Los Angeles. Things fell apart soon afterwards, with Justin trying out a new role as a record producer while Jordan buckled down working full time at E! Entertainment. Passion separated them, but fate brought them back together. They were soon surprised to find themselves in a Meet-Cute for the ages at the Coffee Bean by the Albertsons on Hillhurst. Initial plans for a podcast went awry, and old wounds threatened to derail their new collaboration. Luckily, they were able to find common ground in their mutual desire to bring the softest hoodies to market. Ever restless, they decided not to move to Austin. Justin & Jordan would stick it out, watch their longtime favorite, Michael Jordan’s ‘Come Fly With Me’ and make a “rock n roll record, like we used to,”… but this time… with hustle. You can’t resurrect what never died.
This new release marks the duo’s sixth single, with their debut LP Rack Up Your Debt set to release in the Fall of 2022.
