‘Look at You’ by Mary Shelley | Album Premiere

Exclusive album premiere of ‘Look at You’ by NYC’s own new wave punk trio Mary Shelley, out April 20th.

The band uniquely describe the album’s sound and influence as “The Clash went to a Devo dance party and Jack White threw up all over the dance floor”.

Mary Shelley released their debut single, ‘Bourgeois de Ville’, in September, following it up with an accompanying visualizer. Their second single, ‘Brother’ —and accompanying music video, created with a grant from the New York Film and Music Foundation—soon followed, as well as their third single, ‘The Nursing Home Jig’. The band’s debut album will be released on April 20th, with a release show at The Sultan Room ft. Laura Galindo, Consumables and Beeyotch on April 21st.

Mary Shelley started as an authentic ‘70s punk revival but has quickly progressed to incorporate elements of dance/disco beats, shoegaze and hip-hop, while under the guise of that classic messy three-piece punk sound. Originally a two piece with college buddies Jackson Dockery (guitar + vocals + bass) and Charlie Hull (drums), after meeting Sam Pinson (bass + vocals + synth + guitar) the group turned into a trio and quickly began gigging at any venue that would have them. Cut short after only a few months of playing when the pandemic hit, they filled their time in the rehearsal room, writing new material and developing their sound.

Named for the author of Frankenstein, Mary Shelley means to look deeper into what you see. To not miss the human being inside the monster. A highly collaborative group, the band isn’t afraid to push genre aside in the name of following their creative impulse. Don’t be surprised when their next song sounds nothing like their last.
