Dean & Britta - Don't Think Twice it's Alright/Hey Paula (2015) review

Dean & Britta - Don't Think Twice it's Alright/Hey Paula (The Great Pop Supplement, 2015)

With just two months before the release of Luna’s boxed set, and Britta’s solo album, Dean & Britta deliver this little musical postcard from their own personal side of the galaxie.

The record opens with Britta delivering a Dylan cover, something the two of them did together for their 13 Most Beautiful release ... and here, Britta spreads her wings, delivering sultry etherial assured vocals, over which has been laid a melodic pedal steel guitar that just soaks the song with an alternative country flavor.  On the flip side we find Dean with Jason Quever [of Papercuts] rescuing an outtake from his solo outing Emancipated Hearts, where he remakes and remodels “Hey Paula,” swooning and swaying the 1962 teen romance ballad with self-confidence, assurance, and soothing delight.

The record cover is from a painting by Brian Calvin, and when I asked Dean if this was his John & Yoko album, he assured me that it was not an image of he and Britta, though in his words, “It certainly could be.”

Limited hand numbered edition of 400.
