John Mason Shares New Video for ‘Brighter’
Scottish-born songwriter John Mason has a new single, ‘Brighter’, coming out November 5.
Today we’re sharing the video, a day ahead of its release. The song is taken from his forthcoming eight-track album ‘The United Escapades of John Mason’, recorded at Record Plant in Sausalito, California. Mason has spent much of his life travelling and making music. He’s recorded everywhere from Neil Finn’s Roundhead Studios in New Zealand to a chalet in the French Alps, often arranging sessions and tours with very little money. For the new album, he wanted to bring together musicians and friends he’d met over the years and spend some proper time in the studio. Getting there wasn’t exactly straightforward. Some fans gave him money after a show, and his wife even sold her truck to help pay for the sessions. The album was recorded over nine days, with Paul Brisske of That Kid Is You producing. It’s the first time Mason has worked with a dedicated producer on one of his full-length records.
‘Brighter’ is about friendship and being there for people without trying to change them. Mason explains: “Brighter is an ode to brotherhood. Sometimes we burn bright and other times we have to let things burn down. To stand alongside your brother in the good and the bad with nothing but love. Once you’ve walked through the toughest parts of life, especially with others at your side, it fuels the brightness.
Also it’s probably my favorite song to perform live as I get to scream out those vocals and feel liberated!!”
