Ghost Funk Orchestra return with ‘Yours,’ a new studio single out September 1st via Karma Chief Records. The track features Camellia Hartman on lead vocals for the first time on a Ghost Funk Orchestra studio recording.

Bandleader Seth Applebaum wrote the song after spending time with the records of Dick Hyman and Brazilian organist Ed Lincoln, drawing particularly on that slightly strange corner of mid-century lounge and bachelor-pad music that still tends to turn up in the cheaper record bins.

That influence gives ‘Yours’ its character: a bluesy soul song with a playful, slightly theatrical arrangement, while Hartman sings from the less comfortable position of someone beginning to see through a lover’s promises. There is humour and kitsch around the edges, but the song itself is built around suspicion.

“I wrote ‘Yours’ after spending a lot of time listening to the bubbly organ stylings of Dick Hyman and Ed Lincoln,” Applebaum says. “The song is the first in our discography to feature Camellia Hartman on lead vocals. It’s a little bluesy tune about a suspicious lover.”

The song has actually been part of Ghost Funk Orchestra’s live repertoire for a while. An earlier version appeared on this year’s ‘Live In Europe’, recorded during the band’s 2025 European tour, but this is its first proper studio release.

‘Yours’ follows July’s ‘Ocotillo,’ the first new original Ghost Funk Orchestra had released since the 2024 album ‘A Trip To The Moon’. Both continue the wide-ranging approach Applebaum has developed with the group, where psychedelic soul, funk, jazz, lounge music and older orchestral pop ideas can all find their way into the same song without being treated as period decoration.
