Strange Lot Announce Self-Titled Album, Share ‘Nobody Seems To Do The Math’ Video
Austin psych band Strange Lot have announced their self-titled album, due August 14 via Greenway Records. The news arrives with a new single and video, ‘Nobody Seems To Do The Math,’ a hazy, fuzzed-out track built around synth textures, shoegaze-leaning guitars and a driving pulse.
The band says the song came together quickly and reflects on the way people rush to judgment before seeing the full picture. “The song came together in a single day, start to finish, and centers on how quick we are to assume we understand the full picture before it’s actually revealed,” Strange Lot explain. “The song sees Dominic leaning into synth textures and shoegaze-driven, fuzzed-out guitars.”
The album marks a reset for singer and guitarist Dominic Mena. After nearly walking away from Strange Lot in 2022, he returned to solo recording and wrote close to 30 demos in a month. Those songs became the basis for the new record, with Alex Maas of The Black Angels producing, Jim Eno of Spoon mixing key tracks, and Howie Weinberg handling mastering.
Strange Lot began as Mena’s bedroom recording project in Phoenix before relocating to Austin in 2019. The current lineup features Mena on vocals and guitar, Cameron Martin on drums, Levi Murray on bass, and Jason Desiderio on synthesizer and guitar.
The band are also on the road supporting Melody’s Echo Chamber on her Unclouded tour, with upcoming stops including Webster Hall in New York on May 15, The Belasco in Los Angeles on May 19, Bimbo’s 365 Club in San Francisco on May 20, and The Crocodile in Seattle on May 23.
