Into the ‘Vallées’: Seb Brun and Simon Henocq Unleash ‘TRIM’
On ‘TRIM,’ the first single from their forthcoming album ‘Vallées’ out September 26 via Carton Records, Simon Henocq and Seb Brun channel years of experimentation into something lean charged and unexpectedly physical.
It’s not quite rock not quite electronic but it vibrates with a tense internal logic all its own.
Both are longtime fixtures of the French underground—Brun runs the forward-thinking label Carton, while Henocq is a driving force behind the Coax collective—and together they’ve explored groove-heavy abstraction in Parquet. But this new duo format is more skeletal more direct. Guitar and drums are the source material but they’re processed pushed and pulled until they become molten textures and syncopated jolts. Nothing sounds like it should and that’s exactly the point.
‘TRIM’ unfolds with a kind of mechanical sensuality. There’s breath and pressure distortion and control. It’s music that feels improvised but never loose focused but never rigid. What you hear in ‘TRIM’ is tension on the verge of snapping. It’s loops eating themselves it’s rhythm stumbling forward like it’s chasing its own shadow. There’s just a a sense of propulsion and friction and electricity itching under the skin.
An audio terrain where instinct meets invention and everything hums with so many possibility. ‘Vallées’ is available for preorder at the following link.
