Pan American & Kramer Unveil Haunting New Single ‘Lamenting The Colors of Ice’ Ahead of Tomorrow’s Album ‘Interior of an Edifice Under the Sea’
There are records that invite you in and then there are records that completely envelop you. ‘Interior of an Edifice Under the Sea,’ the new collaborative LP from Pan American (Mark Nelson) and Kramer, does the latter with an uncanny sense of calm and depth. Out June 27 on Shimmy-Disc.
This eight-track ambient collection guides the listener into an underwater dreamworld, one that feels untouched and mysteriously human at once. The new single, ‘Lamenting The Colors of Ice,’ arrives like a slow descent through layers of memory. It captures the album’s essence perfectly: still yet constantly shifting, delicate but full of quiet gravity. This follows the previously released ‘Under The Mariana Trench’ and ‘The Double Life of a Seahorse,’ each piece functioning like a portal into an unknown but strangely familiar dimension.
Nelson, whose work as Pan American has long explored the possibilities of space and restraint, joins forces here with Kramer, the producer and founder of Shimmy-Disc, whose influence on experimental and underground music stretches back decades. Together, they create something that feels less like a collaboration and more like a shared vision unfolding in real time. The album unfolds patiently, refusing urgency, allowing textures to rise and dissolve in their own rhythm. It is ambient music without ornament, atmosphere with intention.
‘Interior of an Edifice Under the Sea’ is not content to float gently. It pulls the listener into deeper, darker places, where sound becomes sensation and composition becomes experience. It is a rare work of ambient music that offers true immersion rather than simply backdrop. The ocean floor has found its soundtrack, and it is strange, luminous, and profoundly moving.
